I like the idea of stoning for breaking a pinkie swear, in fact I think that from this day forward standard protocol for a broken pinkie swear is a hefty dose of stoning (much different than getting stoned)

As for the information before the end of the year, as we all do, we hope to have lots of shiny pretty things to dream about and any tidbit of news that can glean us a look into the future of GW2 makes us all atwitter.

I call your BS and raise it by a "yes there will be" - if there is no information about GW2 before the end of the year, you can personally yell at me, point a finger and say "Martin said there will be information"
ahhh yeah sorry bout my stupid rantings I tend to do that at times

I am now appeased though since I saw the photos of the GW book cover and after talking to Regina. You all keep on doing what you doing, we can wait

Watch your guarantees, Martin. Remember when Gaile promised tons of info, beta, and a new web site.

No news in 2009 will confirm that I will not buy this game no matter how interesting it is. I refuse to support a developer that completely forgets about their fanbase.

That's what I like to hear from the guys with the red names! Looking forward to an onslaught(hopefully) of GW2 info later this year.

I'd like to clarify something about the photo the Fall of Ascalon poster seen at Comic-Con. It was created by our graphic designer as a place-holder for the publisher's catalogue, so this may not be the final book cover.

Nothing has been mentioned upon GW2 directly, though a post by Regina implies (Read: Not state - aka suspicion by others) that GW2 info will be out.

That does no good for anyone. For all anyone knows their "hinting at" - which goes both ways, by the way, could just be yours and others own suspicion and nothing else.

Until they right out state GW2 will not be at PAX, GW2 could be at PAX.

According to this post by Regina:

That's just what the post interprets to me. So, I'm guessing no GW2 info. I do hope I'm wrong though.
Call me optimistic if you want, but that post doesn't prove anything. It just means Regina thinks Aion will get more attention than Anet will due to how close the game is to release, even if GW2 makes that "big splash" (which by the way is said to be this year - no better time than PAX) Aion will have more and already has such high rep compared to the rep GW2 (and GW) have.

Precisely my point.

Anet said no more expansions, so I doubt that. Possible for another BMP-like thing, but doubtful. And they should have a reason to go to PAX since they will be going. So if not GW2, then what? The books? a TV series (god I hope not)? You can only hold a dev talk and questionnaire for so many times...

Either way, I wish I could go to PAX. And I hope that Live Team Writer position opens up so I can send in an application. =3 It would be beyond grand to get that job - though with my luck, I won't.

I'm going to hold you to this Martin. And no, December 31st at 11:59 PM will not count as before the end of the year.

LOL Martin. They don't have pinky swears in Europe? (Or at least Germany?)

Here's a tip: Think of the Unbreakable Vow from Harry Potter. And subtract the magic, self-death, and add scorned all your life and the power you swore with no longer trusting you and (depending on the person) wanting to disembowel you.

We do have the same thing, but I never heard the English term before

actually although its not been totally confirmed that there WON'T be anything, its pretty clear the PAX focus is Aion

HOWEVER, Martin himself has promised there will be information about GW2 by the end of the year

To me, speculation saying there won't be is just as pointless as speculation saying there will be. What matters to me is confirmation or the possibilities of there won't or will. And from the knowledge I have - I say it's a 50/50 chance, even with Aion.

Well, we know they will be at PAX and there is GW2 information due before the end of the year. So it seems like a good a time as any, and many game companies do save up big reveals for game shows.

For the arguments against, Aion is NCSofts latest cashcow that comes out at the end of September. (PAX start of that month) Its probably a good bet they don't want their own titles directly competing with each other, at least not when a new one is about to launch.

50/50 as Konig said, but i vote no show.

I guess it's 50/50. There are 2 sides to the debate. 1 side says they GW2 and Aion will clash, and the other side says there isn't a better time to "splash" GW2 info then at PAX.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for GW2 info. Not books, but real info, like HoM benefits, if there are more races, some gameplay explanations.

I don't think GW2 info close to the Aion's release will hurt NCSoft.

Firstly, the games are pretty much different.
Secondly, GW2 release isn't happening any soon, and if Aion is good, people will buy it and play it anyway - and it doesn't matter what MMO-s are in development now.
And the last - having another big, widely recognized game (and not a dark horse like GW2 is now) in a pocket is a long-term benefit for NCSoft.

GW2 is coming I believe. However, at the moment NCSoft is near the launch of the English version of Aion. They want all attention for the moment on Aion, which I hope is a very big game for NCSoft and I think it will be. But from what I can discern from comments by beta testers in the forums Aion is aimed at the WoW crowd. I don't think it is direct competition for GW2, nor is GW2 direct competition for Aion.

My guess is that GW2 will not go beta until Aion has been out for 6 months to a year. This will allow NCSoft to maintain focus on Aion and give Aion time to build a large player base which it needs since it is a subscription game.

IMHO you're right. GW2 is going to be completely out of the picture to let NCsoft concentrate on Aion and make it a big success (affairs like the recent one of Activision Blizzard in China can hepl NCsoft "steal" customers). And when things are well underway, they'll start mentioning GW2, including to the Aion crowd.

As Billiard recently suggested, Anet is going very big on their next projects, with GW2 only the first step towards them becoming a major studio, in particular as NCwest is lead by 2-ex Anet founders. It's quite cautious for them not to compete agains the Mammoth of the industry like BioWare's ST:TOR (Billiard also mention a sound studio in Bellevue...), but maybe it's their target.

I'm pretty sure Regina and Martin will make PAX'09 an exciting even for the community. It was cool last year to attend the various community events, the one on Xfire with Regina in particular (also the one with the Razer guy). Live video feed of Anet booth/events FTW :P

(anyone in Cologne mid-August for Gamescom should follow Martin with a camera :P )
